Tales From Behind The Makeup Chair: Make-up Hacks - The Mascara Edition

Hack #1

So, you have somewhere special to go – A special date, wedding, portraits, or an awesome party…you know what I mean. Or you just simply are getting ready for your daily grind. Either way, there is the occasional dreaded threat of the unintentional mascara smear. Getting rid of it quickly without having to start all over IS possible. It’s amazing so get ready….you simply wait for the mascara to dry. Once the mascara is COMPLETELY dry, you should be able to take a clean makeup brush and simply brush it or Q-tip it away! That’s it. This also works with waterproof versions of products, but may require a little more Q-tip power. Occasionally you might need to put a little more eye shadow or powder on once you’ve brushed it away, but that’s about the extent of work that needs to go into this correction. No need to start over and do massive reapplications! This trick also works with liquid eye liners.

Hack #2

You’ve finally found a mascara that is absolutely perfect (I adore the PUR Big Look Mascara as well as Revitalash Volumizing Mascara) and does everything you want it to do. Before you know it, it’s drying up well before its expiration time. Here’s something you may not realize and a possible hack to solve your problem. Every time the mascara wand is put back into the tube it brings in some air, which over time can dry your mascara out prematurely. As long as the mascara is NOT past its healthy use by time, you can add a drop or two of sterile eye saline solution to bring your mascara back to life. Voila!

Hack #3

This last mascara hack is a very old trick among many a make-up artist. If you are looking to had a bit more volume to your lashes, try applying baby powder to them - In moderation of course. After applying one layer of mascara, gently apply a slight amount of baby powder using either a Q tip or a clean eye shadow brush. I prefer the latter due to the risk of getting Q tip fibers in your eyes.  Afterwards, since your eyelashes will look pale, apply additional coats of mascara. If you aren’t a fan of using this technique there are a few wonderful mascara primers to help boost volume and length to your lashes. Not only do they help amplify your lashes, but they also help keep mascaras from flaking. I love the Revitalash Volumizing Primer, Blinc Black Eyelash Primer in Black, and Glo Skin Beauty Lash Thickener and Conditioner.

If you feel like your lashes are just lackluster and you would love to longer fuller lashes, I have had wonderful results with the Revitalash Advanced. I cannot speak highly enough of this product. I’ve never had lashes so long in my life. GrandeLASH is also very effective in helping eyelash growth and enhancement.

Stay tuned for foundation and powder hacks in the next edition of “Tales From Behind the Make-Up Chair”. Until then – Happy Beautifying!
