Rosacea and Clarisonic

Rosacea is a chronic dermatitis typically affecting the face that causes a red/rosy coloration and can give the appearance of acne-like pimples.  The condition is due to dilation of capillaries and is most common on the nose and cheeks.  April is National Rosacea Awareness month and although we offer many fantastic products for rosacea, one of the absolute best things you can purchase for this condition is a Clarisonic.

Clarisonic available at beautystoredepot

The Clarisonic is gentle enough to cleanse your face twice daily, even with rosacea!  It also cleans 6x better than simply using your hands and will allow your current rosacea products (or any) to penetrate even deeper for better results.  I would recommend that all rosacea clients use the Delicate Brush Head and be mindful of your own reactions.  Surprisingly enough, the Acne Brush Head is also a great option for rosacea as it has even softer, velvet-like bristles.  If it seems too harsh, then back off and use once daily and of course, if you are under a doctor's care, ALWAYS consult them before adding ANYTHING into your prescribed regiment.

The below image is after 8 Weeks of Using the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System in conjunction with other rosacea and anti-aging products.

Although we have several to choose from, below are my absolute FAVORITE natural brands.

  • PHYTO - They care about the environment by not only using natural plants for the ingredients, but by taking it a step further with all of their packaging being environmentally friendly.  They also offer a WIDE range of products for literally EVERY hair type or concern.
  • MACADAMIA - The smell....oh the smell!  I personally LOVE this line not only for the results and lovely aroma, but also the price point is incredibly reasonable for the amount of product received!
  • All Things Pure by Bioelements - Natural and completely safe to use during pregnancy, this has become my new fave!  It's also incredibly popular with our clients quickly becoming a best seller!
  • SIRCUIT Cosmeceuticals - It takes ALOT for me to ditch an old school favorite product, but SIRCUIT managed to have me ditch not one, but several of my old products that I had used for years!  They are VERY highly effective and have become a hot product amongst many celebs too!
  • gloMinerals - I've been using their concealer for years and have yet to find one that's better!
  • Osmosis Colour - LOVE their primers!
  • colorescience - Their powder sunscreens are a staple in my purse and beach bag!  SUPER easy application and great for kiddos!

10 Tips for a Flawless Self-Tan

Tis the season to self tan!  Before you add some color to your complexion, check out our helpful tips to get your flawless tan at home.

10 Tips for a Flawless Self-Tan
  1. Exfoliate:  Using a gentle body scrub, like gloMinerals Sugar Body Polish, will help prep your skin for an even, splotch-free tan by smoothing skin texture and lifting away dead skin cells.  This process will also help extend your tan.  As a bonus, the Sugar Body Polish moisturizes skin with shea and cocoa butters.
  2. Moisturize: Dry patches of skin will soak up more self-tanner so be sure to moisturize daily leading up to your sunless tan application.  If applying the same day as your self-tanner, give your moisturizer enough time to fully sink into skin first.  Pay close attention to rougher, thicker areas of skin like knees, elbows, and feet.  A light moisturizer, like Fake Bake Oil-Free Moisturizer, will give the skin enough hydration and won’t clog pores or cause your self-tanner to build up.  To get your best tan, we recommend moisturizing with a gradual tanning moisturizer, which will work with your self-tanner to promote your best, all over tan.  The girls around the office love Amir Argan Oil Touch of Tan Moisturizer for its gradual hint of color and wonderful smell!
  3. Don’t go too dark:  The key to a flawless self-tan is a natural looking glow.  While a deep bronze may look good on some, it can appear unnatural on others.  So keep in mind your natural skin tone when choosing a shade.  Even better, look for options that provide a build-able or gradual tan.
  4. Test before you apply:  There's nothing worse than an orange-tinted or overly dark tan.  To see how your skin will react to a self-tanner, test on a small spot of your body prior to full-body application.
  5. Avoid color where you don’t want it:  Wearing plastic gloves while you apply self-tanner will keep your hands clean, helping to avoid the annoying “dirty” palm look, and helps ensure that your product is applied where you want it, not absorbed into hands.  To avoid getting tanning product in your hairline, eyebrows, cuticles and nails, apply a small amount of vaseline or thick lotion around the areas prior to application.
  6. Use an applicator tool:  When using sunless tanning agents, an applicator tool helps promote an even application.  Using a mitt, like the Xen-Tan Deluxe Tanning Mitt, also allows you to buff away any excess product, avoiding streaks or spots.
  7. Apply from the bottom up:  Since some tanners don’t show color during application, this tip will help you avoid over-application, and means you won't cause any creases in the color when you bend over.
  8. Don’t forget your back:  Most of us just aren't flexible enough to reach this area.  Xen-Tan has you covered with the Hard to Reach Back Applicator.  Its refillable, washable foam pads will last you through multiple sunny seasons and works with lotion, mousse and mist formulas.  Spray-on self-tanners are also convenient for reaching those hard to reach areas.
  9. Take your time:  Rushing through application can lead to a messy look or missed spots.  Take your time applying and allow sufficient time for your tan to dry, as needed.  Then wear dark, loose clothing to avoid rubbing off your new, added color.  It's also important to avoid showering and swimming for at least three hours.
  10. Maintain:  Now that you've got your new glow, maintain it by moisturizing, gentle exfoliation and reapplication as needed.  Since many self-tanners are made to provide a natural, gradual tan, you can reapply to reach your desired shade.

Until next time...stay tuned and stay beautiful!

Spring Nail Polish Inspiration

The blogging community is full of incredible advice and inspiration.  We follow many blogs to learn new techniques and popular trends.  We love seeing nail art and swatches, and wanted to share some of our Spring Nail Inspirations with you!

Spring Nail Polish Inspiration

1. OPI Designer Series - Reflection:  This hot pink coral with gold sparkle is sure to add some fun to your spring wardrobe.
2. OPI Designer Series - Reserve:  This pretty and feminine pink is a fun twist on spring’s pastel trend.
3. Shellac UV Color Coat - Hotski to Tchotchke:  To follow spring’s aqua trend, you can’t go wrong with this bright, fun shade.
4. OPI Nail Polish - Alpine Snow:  We love the clean, mod look of this brilliantly white shade!  It also makes a great base color for nail art or a french manicure.
5. OPI Nail Polish - Miss Universe Collection - I’m Feeling Sashy:  We’re feeling the love for this mauve-y purple.  Its dusty tone is perfect for spring and subdued enough for the office too.
6. Shellac UV Color Coat - Rosebud: We’ve fallen head over heels for this candy colored pink.  So sweet!

For a long-lasting manicure, you gotta go with Shellac.  If you don’t have time to make it to the nail salon or prefer regular polishes, we recommend using OPI Chip Skip Manicure Prep Coat before your polish.  Just one coat is all it takes for a longer lasting mani or pedi.

Spring Beauty Trends - Cat Eyes

Bold, graphic liner of all shades and designs were seen on the runways this Spring.  While these looks may be great for the runway, they're not very practical for everyday wear.  One look that kept popping up and has truly withstood the test of time is the Cat Eye.
Though classic, this Spring Trend is kept fresh with varying formulas, from pencil to gel or liquid.  Take it up a notch with an elongated look, or even a vibrant color.  Prep your eyes for application with an eyeshadow or eyelid primer followed by tinted or translucent powder.

Often this look can go awry when you try too hard to get the curve at the end.  It is much easier and surprisingly works better if you simply draw a line out, following the shape of your bottom lash line.  This way, you get a more precise line and don't have to keep comparing each side to the other, and adding more or taking some away to get them even.  Add a little mascara and you're good to go!

We've got all the products you need to create your cat eyes.  Got a favorite Cat Eye look?  We want to see it!  If you're on Instagram or Pinterest, use #cateyes #beautystoredepot
