Get Your Tan On & Find YOUR Perfect One Piece!

I don't know about you, but the idea of getting into a bathing suit is no where close to appealing right now.  I'm pale, packed on a few winter pounds, and have had a little one....so things just aren't what they use to be.  However, putting a little color on my skin ALWAYS makes me feel sexier, more confident, and makes the idea of a swimsuit more tolerable.  So, if you are venturing to a sunny climate for your Spring Break adventure...then I highly recommend getting a little color before you journey.  Sure, you could do a spray tan, but for a quality spray you will definitely pay...and you all know how we feel about tanning beds...NO GO!

But before we discuss tanning options, let's chat about swimsuits.  I am 35...eeks, it's hard to type that...and I have just ordered my first one piece as an adult.  I know, I know....one pieces have come a long way and some of them are actually cute and sexy,  but for some reason I have just kept a stigma in my head about a one piece.  My main reasons for ordering one is simple....my 3 year old daughter always grabs me (or my bikini) in the wrong place and my mid drift isn't what it was before having my precious little angel.  After talking to some other mommy pals of mine the logic was clear that a one piece is more conducive for bending, chasing, picking up....and everything else that goes along with kiddos.  So, I just placed my first order....check it out, it's the blue one below...pretty darn cute, huh?  Several of the suits below come in a variety of colors.  You can also check out Target's junior section for some super cute options too!

Now....on with the tanning!

My personal fave is the Xen-Tan Transform Luxe Light/Medium Luxe Daily Self Tan.  I first used this product over a year ago for a wedding where I was a bridesmaid.  Times were...and are...a wee bit tight, so instead of paying for a spray tan, I opted to try this product out.  I started by using the Xen-Tan Body Scrub  to exfoliate my skin and provide a more even application.  I really love this scrub!  It smells heavenly and not only exfoliates, but also hydrates my skin.  Then, I simply dry off and apply the Xen-Tan Transform Luxe on just as I would any lotion.  I did keep a close eye on those hard to tan areas such as my knees, elbows, wrists, and ankles.  Then I went about my day.  The first application definitely made a difference, but it was after the second application (the following day) that I achieved the dark tan that I prefer.  The results were amazing!  I had several ladies from the wedding ask where I tanned...talk about an easy sell for the company!  I used the lotion at least 3-4 times following before I needed a new bottle.  This is awesome since the price for the bottle is only $30!  Quick side note...my favorite thing about this product is you really can't screw up.  The day of the wedding we noticed that I had completely missed a portion of my back!  I was fortunate that I had brought the Transform Luxe with me for a friend to try....so, we simply applied some to the whiter area....and voila!  By the time it was go time, you couldn't even tell that I had missed a spot.  If you are darker complected, then check out the Xen-Tan Morroccan TanAnother gal in the office uses this on a regular basis and loves it!

If you prefer to use a spray, then check out the Fake Bake Airbrush Instant Self Tanning SprayThis spray creates a flawless tan that also penetrates deep in the skin to provide longer lasting color.  The unique design of the spout allows for even application at any angle....even those lovely hard to reach areas.  I have also used this product in the past and loved the results.  I just tend to prefer lotions as they seem to be less messy to me.

Speaking of hard to reach areas, my biggest issue when self tanning is always my back...hence the large white area for the wedding...but, those days are long gone now with the Body Buddy.  This cool tool works to reach those hard to reach areas with ease.  Simply place the tanning product on the body buddy and use both ends to manipulate so you can reach ANY area.  Even better?  They are washable so you can continue to use it for years to come.

Are you not a fan of self tanning simply due to the mess?  I use to refuse to self tan because (back in the old days before the tanning products improved) my hands use to always end up being that oh so lovely shade of orange.  Although with these products you definitely will not experience any orange, your hands still can darken when applying a lotion.  But...no worries.  Simply use the Xen-Tan Deluxe Tanning Mitt.   The incredibly soft velour makes for an oh so comfy and even application.  Better yet you can use this with not only lotions, but any tanning product.  You can also clean the mitt with cold water and squeeze out any access color after each use.  All for the low price of $7!

The Amir Argan Oil Touch of Tan Moisturizer literally flies off of our shelves.   I finally grabbed a bottle today to try.  It smells delicious and with the argan oil and acai berry extracts this lotion will moisturize your skin while slowly providing you with a natural sun kissed glow.  Typically when something sells this much, the masses aren't incorrect, but I will let you guys know.  Another quick tip....some of the ladies around the office use this in conjunction with a spray or lotion since it keeps their skin glowing, soft, and allows for the lotion or spray to last even longer.

You can save 10% on all of these amazing products from now until 3/4/13 AND get FREE shipping.  Simply enter the code: BEAUTY10 at checkout.  And don't forget....we always provide free samples, so if there are any specific concerns or products you would like to try, just make a comment on your order.

The BEST Spring Break Travel Kits

It's so hard to believe that Spring Break is already upon us.  Weren't we just celebrating Christmas?

Vacations mean packing...and ladies and gents...I have a confession....I am a notorious over packer!  My entire family and close friends tease me about it and I am fairly certain that it drives my poor husband crazy.  It's the idea of needing or wanting something and not having it that bothers me immensely...so I would rather just pack everything.  This doesn't just go for beauty products..oh no, this is for everything, especially shoes.  However, to my credit, I have vastly improved over our last few vacations.  One way is I started limiting my beauty products to items that will all fit into my Clarisonic Travel Bag.  This forces me to only take what I actually need...or forces me to drag myself to the store and by the small travel bottles.

Find YOUR perfect Red Lipstick

Red lipstick is a classic look that has truly stood the test of time.  It can add instant glamour to your look and really makes a statement!  What better day to show your red lipstick than Valentine’s Day?

Though it is a classic look, many people avoid red lipstick as they aren’t sure what shade is right for them.  Since it is such a bold statement, you want to be sure it complements your skin tone so that you draw attention for the right reasons.

Which Red Lipstick is for YOU?

Before you can choose your lipstick, you must first know how to determine your undertones.  This is easy to figure out by answering a few questions about yourself:
  • Can you see an obvious yellow tone in your skin or a rosy or blue tone?   If you’re out in the sun for quite awhile and forget your SPF, do you tend to tan or burn easily?  In sunlight, look at the veins on the inside of your arm – do they appear bluish purple, bluish green or yellow/olive?
  • In eye shadow and clothing:  do you feel you look better in earth tones (olive, orange, brown) and warm metallics (gold, bronze, copper)?  Or better in jewel tones (royal blue, emerald green, purple) and cooler metallics/neutrals (silver, white, gray)?
If you see a yellow tone to your skin, you tan easily, your veins have an olive or yellow tone, and you feel you look best in warm, earth tones, then you have a yellow, golden or peach undertone.
If you see a blue or rosy tone to your skin, you tend to sunburn, your veins appear blue or purple, and you feel you look better in cool, jewel tones, then you have a pink, red or blue undertone.
Some of us are lucky enough to have a neutral undertone, meaning you look fabulous in every shade!  And there are always exceptions to these "rules."  For instance, I have a rosy tone, can sunburn easily, and I look best in jewel tones (blue undertone), but my veins appear blue-green (neutral undertone), and I lean more towards warm metallic eye shadows and gold jewelry (yellow undertone).
Yellow undertones are most common, whereas darker, more pigmented skin tends to have either yellow undertones (lighter skin) or red undertones (darker skin), so being fair or tan doesn’t necessarily make you one undertone versus another.  So you can follow this guidance, but ultimately, trust what you see.  If it doesn’t help you look or feel your best – don’t wear it!

From the list below, find your skin tone with your best red shade, and a celebrity inspiration:

Peach, Golden, Yellow Undertones:  Choose an Orange or Brown-Based Red Lipstick

Pink, Red, Blue Undertones:  Choose a Blue or Pink-Based Red Lipstick
Finding Red Lipstick for Blue Undertones

As you can see, many of the recommended shades overlap with one another.  The rule of thumb:  If you have an undertone in the yellow family, try an orange or brown-based red lipstick.  If you’re more of a blue undertone, try a blue-based or true red lipstick.  If you stick with a shade that complements your skin tone, you’ll get the best results!

Happy Valentine’s day!  Until next time… stay tuned and stay beautiful!

Look Fabulous For Your Valentine...Take Two!

Now that we’ve covered your Valentine’s makeup, we’ve got some great tips on creating romantic hair dos.  We’ll give you a variety of options to create that perfect look just for you!

If you’re looking for a romantic updo, you can take inspiration from the beautiful Claire Danes.  This updo is soft and simple and only requires a few products.  The supplies you’ll need are a medium-barrel curling iron and bobby pins.
Valentine's Hair How-To Part 1

If washing your hair right before styling, apply a blow dry lotion, like Abba Smoothing Blowdry Lotion to damp hair.  For best results, blow dry hair section by section using a round brush, like one of these.  Now that your hair is prepped, it’s time to style!  Part your hair to the side, allowing front layers to sweeps slightly across your forehead.  Using your curling iron, loosely curl your hair from mid-shaft to the ends.  Gather curls to the back of your hair into a loose chignon (at the nape of neck), leaving a few face-framing layers loose.  Secure your curls with bobby pins, then set with a lightweight flexible hairspray like Keratin Complex Flex Flow Finishing Hairspray.  If you’re in for a long night, or your hair needs extra hold, we’ve got a wide selection of hairsprays for your needs.

Short on time?  Use a dry shampoo like Osis+ by Schwarzkopf Refresh Dust Bodifying Dry Shampoo to refresh hair, remove excess oils, and give texture, body and bounce.  Be sure to apply this section by section and allow 1-2 minutes for it to dry, before brushing hair, then styling.  Allow a few face-framing layers to lie loose, while pulling the rest of hair into a bun with your fingers.  This creates your soft, romantic look.  Now curl your face-framing layers, and set with lightweight hairspray.  (Quick note, you can emulate Claire Danes’s style even further by pairing your look with a flowy v-neck red dress, perfect for Valentine’s Day!)
Valentine's Hair How To Part 2

Updos are a breeze for short hair too!  For this look, you can get inspiration from the always chic, Victoria Beckham.  Sometimes short hair falls flat easily, so you’ll need a little help creating texture.  Apply MOP C-System Texture Spray to damp or dry hair (just be sure to blowdry hair if needed, before styling).  If you prefer a paste, use Phyto Pro Matte Texturizing Paste on dry hair for flexible control, a hint of shine, and a carefree “bedhead” look.  To add a little oomph and create volume to dry hair, use a teasing brush section by section.  Starting with lower lengths, pull hair sections back to the nape of neck and pin in place with bobby pins.  It’s okay if your bobby pins show as this look is fun and flirty!  (Quick note, copy Beckham’s style by wearing a nude or neutral tone dress, and adding bold accessories like a cocktail ring or belt.)

Last minute date?  If you only have a few minutes to prep before meeting your Valentine, use Curlisto Glow & Shine to eliminate frizz and give your hair some added shine.  It’s great for curly or straight hair!  Or clip in a cute embellished hair clip or flower.  This is fail-proof whether you’re hitting the town with friends or being treated to a fancy date.

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Until next time...stay tuned and stay beautiful.
